Abstract

Ficus hispida belonging to the Moraceae family has various Pharmacognostical properties and almost all part of this plant included in ancient medicinal practice. The chief phytoconstituents present in the plant are triterpenoids, flavonoid, phenyl propionic acids, alkaloids, steroids, glycosides, and benzoic acid derivatives. The compounds such as beta amyrin, beta sitosterol, hispidine, linalool, terpeneol, oleanolic acid, lupeol etc. are isolated from the different parts of the plant. The recent studies performed on the plant shows promising antimicrobial, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antineoplastic, sedative, antidiarrheal activities, due to the presence of abundant secondary metabolites on the bark, fruit and leaf. Ficus hispida extract with the combination of silver nanotechnology has potent antimycobacterial activity. The plant has been reported to studied for bioavailability enhancement approaches also. In this paper we have highlighted the pharmacological studies and the newer advances in research of Ficus hispida which will open new opportunities and avenues to develop better and effective herbal medicines.
