The study was conducted to compare the agronomic characteristics of the Guinea grass (Megathyrsus maximus Jacq.) cultivars (Factor A): (Local Guinea grass; LG and Mombasa grass; MG) at different cutting i:-ntervals (CI; Factor B). The grasses were planted in four plots/block. Zeroing was done at 65 days post-planting, and then four consecutive harvest periods at CI of 30 and 45 days followed. The treatment combinations were as follows: LG30 (LG, 30 day CI), LG45 (LG, 45-day CI), MG30 (MG, 30-day CI), and MG45 (MG, 45-day CI). On average, LG30, LG45, and MG45 have significantly produced more tillers/hill and leaves/hill than MG30. M45 significantly produced more leaves/tiller than other treatments (second harvest). For plant height, MG is significantly taller than LG, except for the second harvest. MG45 had significantly higher leaf:stem in the first harvest and MG30 in the second harvest than other treatments. MG had significantly produced higher herbage (HBY) and dry matter yields (DMY) than LG in the first harvest. Harvesting Guinea grass cultivars at 45-day instead of 30-day CI significantly produced higher HBY and DMY. Growing MG is recommended for higher yields and harvest at 45-day CI. MG is adaptable in Leyte and can substitute LG for ruminant feeding.
