Inflammatory diseases are a growing health concern, and the search for safe and effective treatments is ongoing. Strobilanthes cordifolia, a relatively unexplored plant from the Acanthaceae family, presents significant potential for new discoveries and applications. This study aimed to evaluate the total alkaloid and tannin content, as well as the anti-inflammatory activities of various solvent extracts of S. cordifolia leaves, to support its traditional medicinal use. The anti-inflammatory activity was assessed through protein denaturation and proteinase inhibition assays. The ethanol extract was found to have the highest levels of total alkaloid (87.2 ± 0.72 mg AE/g) and tannin (73.53 ± 0.51 mg TAE/g) compared to other extracts. Additionally, the ethanolic extracts demonstrated promising anti-inflammatory activity in a concentration-dependent manner. Results indicated that the ethanol extracts exhibited the highest protein denaturation and proteinase inhibition activities, with IC50 values of 80.8 µg/mL and 84.8 µg/mL, respectively, comparable to the standard (diclofenac) with IC50 values of 52.9 µg/mL and 56.7 µg/mL. All extracts showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.01) in anti-inflammatory activity. The findings suggest that S. cordifolia could be a potential natural source of anti-inflammatory agents.
