Anticancer Potential and Molecular Docking Study of a Newly Thiouracil-5-Sulphonamide Derivative Bearing Chromone Moiety

Abstract

It is estimated that within a few years, cancer will become the leading cause of death globally. Hence, there is a requirement to create novel compounds with promising anticancer properties and fewer side effects, prompting the researchers to conduct this study. The chemical compound 4-oxo-N-(4-oxo-4H-chromen-7-yl)-2 thioxo-1,2,3,4- tetrahydropyrimidine-sulphonamide derivative was proposed and synthesized to match the active constituent of sage extract (apigenin), a well-known anticancer remedy. The in-vetro anticancer activity of the synthesized compound and the plant extract was examined against four human cancer cell lines viz A 2780 (ovarian), HT-29 (colon), MCF-7 (breast), and HepG2 (liver) using 5-fluorouracil as a standard. Results showed promising activity of the newly synthesized compound compared to the natural remedy. Moreover, results showed that the combination of both had a synergistic activity.
