Abstract

Purpose: To suggest a vision where the postulates of humanistic psychology can be complemented, or even completed by the theoretical corpus of the Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophies. Theoretical framework: consists on displaying the essential notions of both areas in order to set a scenario for comparison and posterior suggestion of integration. Methodology/approach: applied was the four Aristotelian reasoning positions mentioned in the Organon: compatibilities, consecutions, contradictions and oppositions in order to identify the points of connection, of incompatibility and possible conciliations between both fields. Findings: Because of its postulates about existence, essence, humanity, virtue, and happiness philosophical anthropology owns an immovable teleology, a clear destination for humankind potentialities and a solid “how” to identify, know and guide to the reach of that destination. Research, Practical & Social Implication: When it comes to praxis the therapeutical area is not the expertise of a philosopher, this means humanistic psychology could integrate through its person-centered therapy the theoreticality of philosophical anthropology for guiding people to a healthier actualization. Index Originality/Value: Because conciliation assures reaching higher levels of knowledge and, despite antithesis is essential to dialectize, a conciliation among different theoretical corpus can help to reach a healthier, cleared and solid ideal of humanity.
