DETERMINANT ANALYSIS OF SUSPECTED SCABIES IN MADINAH ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL STUDENTS AND MULTIDIMENSIONAL AL-FAKHRIYAH ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL IN MAKASSAR YEAR 2024

Abstract

Introduction : Scabies is one of the neglected tropical diseases that are often experienced by students in Islamic boarding schools. Risk factors that can cause scabies include the level of knowledge, behavior, environment and personal hygiene. This disease can affect physical conditions that can cause secondary infections even death. Personal hygiene is an action to maintain cleanliness and health for physical and psychological well-being from head to toe. Personal hygiene is needed for a person's comfort, safety, and health and to minimize the spread of diseases, especially those related to poor personal hygiene. Poor personal hygiene will make the body prone to various diseases such as skin diseases, infectious diseases, oral and digestive tract diseases. Methods : This research used the observational analytical method with a Cross Sectional Study design from March to September 2024. The sample was 357 people taken using the Exhausive Sampling Technique . Data were analyzed using the Chi Square test and Logistic Regression. Results : Based on the results of the study, it was found that there was a relationship between the students knowledge (p=0.017), hand and nail cleanliness (p=0.000), genitalia cleanliness (p=0.000), towel cleanliness (p=0.000), clothing cleanliness (p=0.000), and availability of clean water (p=0.001) to the incidence of scabies and the results of the study showed that there was no relationship between bed cleanliness (p=0.397) and ventilation (p= 0.739) to the incidence of scabies at the Madinah Islamic Boarding School and the Al-Fakhriyah Multidimensional Islamic Boarding School, Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between scabies suspects and student knowledge, hand and nail hygiene, genitalia cleanliness, towel cleanliness, clothing cleanliness, and availability of clean water.
