Abstract

Hypertension is a key risk factor for LVH and in the development of clinical heart failure (HF). Unattended high blood pressure is considered to be the major risk factor for coronary artery diseases and HF.Various hemodynamic, structural, neuroendocrine, cellular, and molecular factors play integral roles in the development of hypertension and associated abnormalities. LA dysfunction is thought to result from LA fibrosis, and several biological factors have been implicated in this process. Delayed enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is the gold standard and has been particularly used in patients with AF. TDI-derived velocities, strain, and strain rate have been applied to the evaluation of global and regional LA function. The aim of the current article to review assessment of left atrial function and speckle tracking echocardiography in well controlled hypertensive patients.
