Efficacy of Novel Minimally Invasive Techniques for BPH Management: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) represents a common urological condition affecting aging men, often resulting in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Traditional therapeutic modalities include medical management and invasive surgeries. However, emerging minimally invasive techniques (MITs) have gained attention due to their reduced complication rates and favorable recovery profiles. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of novel minimally invasive techniques in BPH management. Objective: The primary objective is to assess the outcomes of novel minimally invasive interventions for BPH, specifically in terms of symptom relief, reduction in prostate volume, and improvement in quality of life. Secondary objectives include analyzing the safety profile and post-operative recovery. Results: A total of 120 patients diagnosed with moderate-to-severe BPH were randomized into three groups, receiving either transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), a conventional intervention, or a novel minimally invasive technique (laser therapy, prostatic artery embolization, or water vapor therapy). At 12 months, the minimally invasive groups exhibited statistically significant improvements in symptom scores (IPSS), post-void residual volume, and prostate volume reduction (p<0.05). Complication rates were also significantly lower compared to TURP. Discussion and Conclusion: The novel minimally invasive techniques demonstrated superior safety, with substantial improvements in symptom relief and quality of life compared to traditional approaches. This study highlights the potential of these techniques as first-line treatment options for BPH. Further large-scale trials are needed to validate these findings.
