Brick is one of the most essential building materials or units in the underdeveloped countries. The brick industry in India is the second largest in the world. The brick-making businesses belong to the minor industrial segment in this largely rural industry. With the development of cities and increase in population, the number of brick factories is increasing day by day. There are many brick-making kilns in the gram panchayat of Nikum. The brick kilns are situated along the banks of Tandula, Shivnath and other tributaries of the river. Good soil along riverbanks is preferred as raw material for the production of bricks. It facilitates the process of preparing, moulding, drying and burning clay.
