Five medicinal plants, Ipomoea obscura, Tylophora indica, Abroma augustuma, Glinus oppositifolius, and Aristolochia indica, were collected ethnobotanically from Sonamukhi Block in Bankura District, for analysis of antibacterial and antifungal activity. The antimicrobial characteristics were determined against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, Escherichia. coli, Pseudomonas. aeruginosa, Staphylococcus. aureus, and Streptococcus. mutans. Potato Dextrose Broth and Luria Bertani Broth were employed for fungal and bacterial cultures, respectively. Sample concentrations were produced in Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO). The results demonstrated that I. obscura and T. indica had strong antibacterial and antifungal action against a variety of bacterial and fungal strains, with wider zones of inhibition reported at increasing dosages. These results emphasize the potential of medicinal herbs as natural antibacterial agents, highlighting the need for further study to better understand their medicinal uses, mechanisms of action, and ethnobotanical significance.
