Background: - Glass ionomer cements (GICs) have many applications in the oral cavity of primary teeth.This is due to their favourable characteristic properties like chemical adhesion to enamel and dentin, fluoride release, coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity close to dentin and biocompatibility to pulp.However it possesses certain short comings such as high solubility, low flexural strength, low fracture toughness and also after a period of time from the completion of a dental restoration, biofilm formation occurs on the GIC surface with subsequent degradation of the material, which limits its clinical performance with time.
