Background; Blunt force abdominal trauma is a typical emergency room presentation in both adults and children and is significantly associated with morbidity and mortality especially in poor nations, as well as the greatest cause of death in those under the age of 45. Aim and objectives; This study aims to evaluate accuracy of blunt abdominal trauma scoring system (BATSS) in diagnosis patients with Blunt Abdominal Trauma in Elwehda Hospital, Derna University. Subjects and methods; This study has been carried out in Derna University, Elwehda Derna Hospital during the period between July 2022 to December 2022 on 120 patients in Emergency Department of Elwehda Derna hospital. The mean age of patients in the study was 25.87±10.7 years (range 17–61 years). Result: the mean age of patients in the study was 32.45±11.8 years, there were 36 females and 84 males. Trauma scoring system (BATSS) is valid in the prediction of surgical need for blunt abdominal trauma from discharge individuals .The sensitivity of trauma scoring system was 100%,with the specificity of 96.5%,Accuracy: overall probability that a patient is correctly classified was (95.7%). Conclusion: BATSS is a new scoring system based on clinical signs, can be used in predicting blunt abdominal trauma outcome, whether a blunt abdominal trauma patient needs laparotomy or not. BATSS score, higher values (≥12) are associated with increasing need of laparotomy and increasing mortality, lower values are associated with no or low need of laparotomy and no mortality.
