Abstract

Traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani system of medicines have used it as a remedial plant for different diseases. Passiflora contains a lot of phyto-constituents such as flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, phenolic and volatile constituents which have therapeutic potentialand clinical applications. In present investigation, it is observed that the application of elicitor (salicylic acid) on the Passiflora foetida Linn. leads to enhanced production level of flavonoids and phenolic content under controlled environmental conditions. The present study was performed by the application of SA on the plants grown in green house. The concentration variations in the chosen abiotic plant elicitor i.e salicylic acid in 50 μM, 150 μM and 250 μM concentrations was done in controlled green house. The percentage yield of untreated plants and 50 μM, 150 μM and 250 μM salicylic acid treated plants was found to be 10.52, 9.25, 9.28 and 10.53 respectively
