Sacred groves, often overlooked and underestimated, hold profound ecological and cultural significance in South Kashmir. This review article aims to delve into the ecological importance and cultural richness of these sacred sites, highlighting their role in biodiversity conservation and preservation of traditional beliefs and practices. Drawing from a review of existing literature, this article synthesizes current knowledge on the subject, emphasizing the need for their conservation and sustainable management in the face of modernization and environmental degradation.
