Abstract

Sacred groves, often overlooked and underestimated, hold profound ecological and cultural significance in South Kashmir. This review article aims to delve into the ecological importance and cultural richness of these sacred sites, highlighting their role in biodiversity conservation and preservation of traditional beliefs and practices. Drawing from a review of existing literature, this article synthesizes current knowledge on the subject, emphasizing the need for their conservation and sustainable management in the face of modernization and environmental degradation. The ecological and cultural significance of sacred groves in South Kashmir underscores their importance as unique and irreplaceable ecosystems. Recognizing and safeguarding these groves is essential for maintaining biodiversity, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Through concerted conservation efforts and community engagement, we can ensure the continued existence and vitality of sacred groves in South Kashmir for generations to come.
