Formulation and Characterization of Emulgel Containing Cardiospermum Halicacabum for Treatment of Arthritis

Abstract

The study is on developing and analyzing an emulgel that contains Cardiospermum halicacabum for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a common autoimmune condition caused by both hereditary and environmental factors. Cardiospermum halicacabum, along with other medicinal plants, is being studied to determine the therapeutic potential of its bioactive components in controlling rheumatoid arthritis (RA), due to its historic usage in treating numerous maladies. Emulgel, which possess both gel and emulsion features, provide a unique method for treating arthritis. This has attracted attention from pharmaceutical experts due to its flexibility in delivering drugs. The gel phase of the emulgel in this research consists of Carbopol 934 dispersed in water, with a pH range of 6-6.5 adjusted using triethanolamine. The oil phase includes span 20 in light liquid paraffin, while the aqueous phase consists of tween 20 dissolved in water. The formulation includes methyl and propyl parabens dissolved in propylene glycol, as well as Cardiospermum halicacabum extract dissolved in methanol. The study's findings indicate that emulgel provide both dual control and long-lasting release, hence improving the bioavailability of drugs and increasing patient compliance. The examination of the emulgel formulation includes analysis of many characteristics, including pH, viscosity, particle size, zeta potential, medication content, stability, and skin irritation tests, resulting in a thorough assessment. The study highlights the emulgel potential as a successful method of delivering drugs for treating arthritis. It also emphasizes the need of doing further research and making improvements in pharmaceutical science to enhance the effectiveness of treatments and improve care for patients with chronic illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis.
