The present study is about formulation and evaluation of transferosomal gel for the treatment of mild cellulitis. Cefazolin is an antibiotic that is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, specifically those caused by streptococci and staphylococci. The transferosome is the first generation of elastic liposomes. Cefazolin-loaded transferosomes were prepared through the thin film hydration technique using soya lecithin as a lipid and span 80 and sodium deoxycholate as an edge activator, and the vesicles were characterized for entrapment efficiency, particle size, zeta potential, shape, and in-vitro drug release. From the above evaluation test, optimized batches were selected for the formulation of gel. Gel was prepared by using carbopol 940 and HPMC and evaluated for spreadability, viscosity, ph, drug release, and stability.TF6 batch is considered as optimized with in-vitro drug release 86.70% for 12 hrs, entrapment efficiency 85.64% and drug content 90.98 %.These findings confirmed that cefazolin transfersomal gel is a promising topical formulation for effective treatment of cellulitis over the conventional formulations of cefazolin.
