Cash crops have remained the mainstay of Kerala agriculture for a long time. However, many factors including the increasing cost of production, fluctuations in the market price, and climactic changes have made the cultivation of these crops unprofitable. Hence farmers are shifting to the commercial cultivation of fruit crops such as rambutan, abiu, mangosteen, and jackfruit on an extensive scale. For commercial cultivation Orchard production practices should follow a scientific approach. Homegrown Biotech, the frontline promoters of fruit farming, have introduced the best-of-the-sort rambutan variety N18 to the farmers this paper details the Rambutan package of practices that is necessary to empower farmers, which would guarantee sustainable and profitable farm incomes.
