The open dumping of municipal solid waste in uncontrolled dumpyards can cause major impact on human health and surrounding environment. Leachate production is the main problem in dump yards, it causing pollution of ground water and surface water bodies. If water once contaminated, it is very difficult task to refine. The present research study is to determine the leachate pollution index of MSW dumpyard of Rampur area, Warangal urban district of Telangana, India. This paper also presents leachate pollution index (LPI) represents the level of potential contamination of the dumpyard. In present study LPI provides an overall leachate contamination potential at a given time. The LPI is also used to compare the contamination potential of different seasons of the leachate sampling. The LPI values of the Rampur dumpyard is significantly high and to ensure proper treatment is required before discharge of the leachate into surrounding environment.
