Abstract

This review focuses on the development of innovative animal models for evaluating antifertility agents, highlighting their importance in understanding the efficacy and safety of new contraceptive methods. These models are essential for studying the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of potential antifertility treatments. The review addresses the challenges in developing these models, including interspecies differences and ethical issues. There is a growing need for contraceptives that are effective, user-friendly, reversible, and culturally acceptable, as current methods often fall short in meeting diverse needs. Research has explored various contraceptive methods such as hormonal pills, injectable, intrauterine devices, and implants, each presenting specific benefits and limitations. Animal models provide a valuable controlled environment for testing these methods, offering insights that are not always possible in human trials. However, translating results from animal models to human applications remains challenging due to physiological differences between species. The review underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and ethical research practices in overcoming these challenges and advancing global reproductive health.
