Abstract

Congenital Anomalies (CA) can be defined as structural or functional anomalies (for example metabolic disorders) that occur during intrauterine life and can be identified prenatally, at birth or later in life. Congenital anomalies are also known as birth defects, congenital disorders or congenital malformations. Birth defects affect 2 to 3 % of births and as India has reported 27 million births in 2011, around 540000 to 810000 pregnancies may have been affected with major or minor congenital anomalies
