Abstract

This research investigates the impact of industrialization on leadership transformation within the indigenous Komoro tribe of Mimika in Papua, Indonesia. The research problem centers on the challenges posed by the clash between traditional cultural values and modernization pressures brought about by industrial development, particularly in the context of PT Freeport's activities in the region. The study aims to analyze how industrialization influences social dynamics, power relations, and decision-making processes within the community. Employing qualitative methods such as in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, the research reveals the evolving roles of traditional leaders in mediating between community interests and external stakeholders to ensure sustainable development while preserving indigenous rights and cultural heritage. The results underscore the importance of education in empowering community members, especially women and youth, to actively participate in decision-making processes and navigate the complexities of industrial development while upholding indigenous values.
