This study focuses on the isolation, characterization, and anti inflammatory activity of embelin extracted from Embelia ribes berries. The extraction process involved cold extraction with n-hexane, followed by rotary evaporation and column chromatography, which yielded 19.5 g of pure embelin from 6 kg of berries (0.325% yield). High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) confirmed the purity and homogeneity of the isolated embelin with an Rf value of 0.53 in the ethyl acetate: benzene (70:30) solvent system. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including melting point analysis (141–143 ºC), Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and Mass Spectrometry (MS), validated the identity and structure of embelin as 2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-1,4-benzoquinone.
