Abstract

Toxoplasmosis, caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, poses significant health risks to both humans and domestic cats. This study investigates the impact of toxoplasmosis on the immune response, specifically examining the levels of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in infected individuals. In humans, infection with T. gondii has been associated with altered immune responses, potentially leading to increased susceptibility to various health issues. Elevated levels of IL-8, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, may indicate an ongoing inflammatory response, while IFN-γ plays a crucial role in controlling intracellular parasites. In local cats, the study aims to correlate the presence of T. gondii with changes in IL-8 and IFN-γ levels, providing insights into the immune mechanisms at play. Understanding these relationships is vital for developing effective management strategies for toxoplasmosis in both humans and felines, highlighting the need for further research into the immunological effects of this widespread infection.
