The Role of Beta-Blockers in Mitigating Stress-Induced ECG Alterations

Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular abnormalities, such as changes in electrocardiogram (ECG) values, may be attributed in large part to stress. It has been hypothesised that beta-blockers, which are often used to treat cardiovascular diseases, might reduce the changes in electrocardiogram (ECG) caused by stress. This research seeks to determine if beta-blockers may alleviate ECG changes brought on by acute stress. Methods: We employ biophysically precise computational models that combine Beta-adrenergic signalling with descriptions of human ventricular electrophysiology, from which we simulate ECG signals and ventricular action potentials, to discover the implicated pathways. Results: We noticed a significant decrease in aberrant ECG patterns in patients who received beta-blocker intervention, both with and without controlled stress circumstances, based on an analysis of their ECG data. Conclusion: These results imply that, by regulating heart rate and rhythm, beta-blockers may be essential in preventing cardiovascular events brought on by stress. The findings have significance for therapeutic settings as well, since individuals who are at risk of stress-induced cardiac abnormalities may benefit from the selective use of beta-blockers
