ULCER-PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF NIGELLA SATIVA OIL IN INDOMETHACIN PLUS PYLORUS LIGATION INDUCED GASTRIC ULCERS IN RATS

Abstract

Aim:- The ulcer protective potential of Nigella sativa oil (NSO) was evaluated in acute gastric ulcer model in albino wistar rats induced by Indomethacin and pylorus ligation (PL). Experimental Procedure:- CMC(1%) [1ml/kg/day] was used as a vehicle as well as in normal control group. Three toxic groups i.e. pylorus ligated, Indomethacin (20mg/kg/p.o.) treated and Indomethacin plus PL rats, were developed. Omeprazole (10mg/kg/p.o.), a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) anti-ulcer drug, was used as a standard drug in standard group. The effect of test drug NSO (2.5ml/kg/p.o.) and the Omeprazole(standard) (10mg/kg/p.o.) were compared with toxic groups using evaluation parameters like Ulcer index (UI), gastric wall mucus determination, total acidity, gastric juice volume and biochemical estimation of reduced glutathione (GSH) in blood as parameters.
