Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance has been a serious threat to entire world due to irrational use of antibiotics by medical practitioners and patients have been found to have misuse of antimicrobials leading to antimicrobial resistance. Hence this study aims of studying on knowledge attitude and practice of antibiotic usage among 1st year residents. Methods: It is a questionnaire based cross sectional survey study conducted among 101 students. The study was initiated only after getting approval from IEC. The data was subjected to percentage analysis. Result: Of the 101 students, 85% students were aware about the rational use of antibiotics course. About 67.5% students agreed that broad spectrum antibiotics affect gut flora causing secondary infection. 59.4% students felt that skipping of more than one doses of antibiotics can lead to resistance, while 87.1% agreed that antibiotics for improper duration than that indicated course is responsible for this. 55% students agreed that antibiotics should be prescribed only after culture and sensitivity report, while 76.2% agreed to always prescribe broad spectrum antibiotics. Conclusion: Most of the residents were aware of the antimicrobial resistance and its consequences, only concern was their casual attitude regarding the antibiotic usage.
