Collection and selling of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) is considered as an important means of improving the economic conditions of the rural people. Almost all of the rural population/households are engaged in collection of one or more forms of NTFPs. Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the South eastern part of the Aizawl District, Mizoram occupies an area of 35.75 sq.km and is around 109km away from the state capital i.e. Aizawl harvests a large number of NTFPs of plant origin. The main objective of the study is to quantify and analyse the diversity of NTFPs of plant origin and its livelihood contribution to the tribal households of sample villages. Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method was adopted for the field study. Detailed information on marketing channel of NTFPs was also noted. A total of 82 species and belonging to 40 families of NTFPs of plant origin have been recorded during survey and field observation. Dysoxylum excelsum and Calamus flagellum were identified to have high value compared to other NTFPs. Both the species were found abundantly in Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary.
