Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is a country that has various traditional plants that have the potential to be used as medicinal ingredients. Ginger and lemongrass are plants that are starting to be developed as medicine. Ginger and lemongrass contain compounds that have antioxidant activity. Methods: Antioxidants in this study were tested using the DPPH, ABTS, NO and FRAP methods with IC50 values. Result: antioxidant activity of ginger radical DPPH is 1061.14 in very weak criteria; ABTS is 84.85 with strong criteria; NO is 1461.31 in the very weak category; and FRAP is 0.20 in very strong criteria. Antioxidant activity of lemongrass with the DPPH method is 12742.74 in very weak criteria; ABTS is 5871.26 in the very weak category; NO is 13211.25 with very weak criteria; and FRAP is 4.23 in strong criteria. The activity of the combination of lemongrass and ginger obtained DPPH results of 2803.51 in very weak criteria; ABTS is 205.45 in very weak criteria; NO is 2373.16 in very weak criteria; and FRAP is 1.04 in very strong criteria. Based on the study, it is known that ginger and lemongrass have antioxidant activity and do not show toxic potential so that they are relatively safe to use..
