BIOPROSPECTING AND EVALUATION STUDY ON HARNESSING THE POTENTIAL OF PROBIOTIC-INFUSED BODY WASH WITH BLACK SOLDIER FLY LARVAE OIL

Abstract

This study introduces a novel body wash formulation designed to enhance skin health by incorporating probiotics and a blend of herbal extracts. The body wash is formulated to address various skin concerns. Additionally, the body wash contains black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens L.) Oil. This oil, rich in saturated fatty acids like lauric acid constituting 31.729% of the lipid profile of BSFL oil. The oil derived from black soldier fly larvae serves as a sustainable source comprising a blend of triglycerides of both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. These components collectively enhance skin health by acting as emollients, indirectly hydrate the skin by reducing trans epidermal water loss, and repair skin damage. Furthermore, the incorporation of herbal extracts that includes coffea arabica, hibiscus rosa- sinensis, senna auriculata, withania somnifera, acalypha indica in which body wash with extract senna auriculata found to high anti- oxidant activity as compare to other body washes. The pH of the formulations ranged from 8.0 to 9.5. Foam heights vary from 0.8 cm to 1.2 cm. This study aims to investigate the potential of BSFL oil with infusion of probiotics and herbal extract to rebalance the skin microbiome, promote anti-aging properties, and nourish the skin.
