Abstract

Fertilizers play a crucial role in agriculture. They are responsible for nutrient supply, soil fertility enhancement, increased crop productivity. improved crop quality, efficient land use among others. They are essential for enhancing agricultural productivity, improving soil health, and ensuring food security, all while supporting economic growth in the agricultural sector. In this study, a manually-operated device for mixing solid fertilizers in water was designed and developed to address the drawbacks associated with the traditional way of mixing. Its performance in terms of mixing time to dissolve the fertilizer was evaluated and compared with that of the traditional way of mixing. Results showed that there was a significant reduction in mixing time, demonstrating a clear increase in efficiency and productivity for farmers. Moreover, the mixing device minimizes the risk of hand injuries that could occur with traditional mixing method due to possible contact with the fertilizer solution, thereby improving overall safety
