A mission statement plays a significant role in an organization's strategic planning by providing a framework for developing plans, programs, and strategies. Considered an essential factor that contributes to an organization's long-term growth and success, the statement lays down the values and priorities of the organization. For a non-profit organization, a mission statement is even more crucial as it helps in setting its strategic purpose. The purpose of this study is to examine the mission statements of non-government organizations working in India’s environment and forest sector to determine the primary orientations these statements communicate to their stakeholders. A content analysis was conducted on fifty mission statements sourced directly from the official websites and social media platforms of the non-government organizations to identify the major themes and focal areas reflected in these statements. The findings indicate that the non-government organizations included in the study emphasize sustainability and conservation of the environment as the central tenets of their mission statement. The non government organizations outline education and community engagement as pivotal approaches to achieving their goals and objectives.
