Abstract

The green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Curcuma Longa (turmeric) isolated curcumin represents a sustainable and eco-friendly approach with significant biomedical and environmental applications. This review paper explores the methodologies for extracting curcumin from turmeric, protocols for synthesizing silver nanoparticles using curcumin, and the advantages of green synthesis over conventional methods. The mechanisms of antimicrobial and antioxidant actions of the synthesized nanoparticles are examined, highlighting their interaction with microbial cell membranes, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and disruption of microbial metabolic pathways. Characterization techniques such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and DLS are discussed in detail to elucidate the properties of the synthesized nanoparticles. The paper also evaluates the antimicrobial and antioxidant efficacy of AgNPs, comparing them with conventional agents and other natural antioxidants. Furthermore, potential applications of AgNPs in biomedical, environmental, and industrial fields are discussed, along with challenges and future directions in scaling up the synthesis process and addressing potential toxicity. This comprehensive review underscores the promise of curcumin-mediated AgNPs in advancing nanotechnology for sustainable and effective solutions.
