Effects of Nanoparticles Iron Oxide (Fe₃O₄) and Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) on liver and kidney mitochondrial and a comparative study with curcumin treatment in Rats

Abstract

In this study we investigated effect of (TiO2 and Fe3O4) NPs on liver and kidney Wister Rat’s. However, the curcumin (Cur) has been demonstrated to decreased the effect of nanoparticles, at the doses (10 ppm Fe3O4-NPs), (10 ppm TiO2-NPs), (20ml/Kg Cur) and Cur associated with nanoparticles. To investigate whether the effect of NPs and Cur on serum biochemical levels, tissue biochemical levels and oxidative stress after isolated the mitochondria liver and kidney Wister rats. The obtained results showed slightly elevated levels of the biochemical tests of serum (ALT, AST, ALP, Urea and creatinine) and tissue biochemical levels (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids) treated with NPs and Cur. Furthermore, it elevated the lipid peroxidation (MDA) mitochondrial reduction in glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and mitochondria swilling, permeability and cytochrome c (Cyt-c). Further, the dosage of Cur attenuated these effects by lowering lipid peroxidation, GST, GSH, CAT and mitochondria swilling and Cyt-c. These findings have demonstrated that Cur can act as an antioxidant and antiapoptotic agent against damage induced by NPs dependence.
