Efficacy of Lymphatic Drainage after Cryolipolysis on Abdominal Obesity in Post Menopausal Women

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of lymphatic drainage after cryolipolysis on subcutaneous abdominal fat in post menopausal obesity. Subjects and Methods: Fifty postmenopausal women suffering from abdominal adiposity (central obesity) took part in the study, their age ranged from 50 – 55 years with body mass index (BMI) between 35 – 40 kg/m2 and their waist/ hip ratio was >0.88. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups of equal size; study group (A) and control group (B). Study group (A) were given cryolypolsis, lymphatic drainage in addition a low caloric diet program (1200 kcal/day) to follow it during the treatment course for 12 weeks while control group (B) were given cryolypolsis only along with the same low caloric diet program (1200 kcal/day) that was described in group (A) to follow it during the treatment course for 12 weeks. The women who were involved in the study were evaluated by lipids profile (Total cholesterol (TC), High density lipoprotein (HDL), Low density lipoprotein (LDL) and Triglyceride (TG)), skinfold and anthropometric measurements (body circumferences (waist and hip) and waist/hip ratio). Results: The data obtained indicated substantial differences in all assessed variables between the two groups before and after therapy. A statistically significant difference was observed in the post-treatment values of all measured variables when comparing the two groups, with the study group (A) showing better results. Conclusion: Lymphatic drainage after cryolipolysis had positive effects on subcutaneous abdominal fat and the lymphatic drainage with cryolipolysis had more effective than cryolipolysis alone on subcutaneous abdominal fat in post menopausal obesity.
