Essential oil composition of Centaurea pungens (Asteraceae) an endemic species of the septentrional Sahara.

Abstract

In this work we report for the first time the essential oil of centaurea pungens composition from the septentrional Sahara. The essential oil obtained by steam distillation from Centaurea pungens was analyzed by GC/FID and GC / MS. The results showed the presence of 45 compounds among which 32 components were identified corresponding to 91.09 % of the total oil.The main components were methyl eugenol (15.2%), 1,8 cineole (14.02%), Geranyl acetate (11.46%), linalool (9.98%), α pinene (7.74%), α –terpineol (6.7%), and trans caryophyllene oxide (3.56%).
