Abstract

The coronavirus disease has a significant mortality rate and has spread rapidly worldwide. People are searching for alternative ways to treat or reduce the harmful effects of this outbreak. For this reason, an ethnobotanical study was conducted in Algeria to identify medicinal plants used to treat COVID-19. Five hundred and two members of closed Facebook groups participated in this study; 72.1% of them were infected. The analysis of the survey results reveals widespread use of medicinal plants among the Algerian population, where the participants used 19 plant species from 11 different families as a means of prevention against COVID-19.
