Abstract

The world in general and Kerala in particular have reached a critical situation where regional development needs to be considered along with environmental issues. This demanding need arises as global challenges such as climate change and resource depletion demand a fusion of development strategies with environmental preservation. However, the failure or slowdown of development processes often stems from overlooking environmental challenges. Thus, an effective development approach necessitates integrating lessons from nature. Notably, conventional development theories like capitalism, communism, or socialism have failed to address contemporary crises due to their oversight of natural capital resources. The consequences of such oversight are evident in the disparity between affluent minority groups and perpetually marginalized majority populations, reflecting a societal imbalance. Nevertheless, amidst these challenges, there is an urgent call to recognize the universal difficulty of life and the imperative to address environmental neglect. In this context, this paper emphasizes the importance of integrating sustainable practices, renewable energy sources, and green infrastructure into dynamic regional development projects. By doing so, it aims to shed light on how addressing environmental issues can effectively bolster sectors such as health, agriculture, education, industry, and infrastructure development in Kerala. It highlights that failure to address environmental challenges not only hampers development but also endangers the well-being of present and future generations, regardless of other socioeconomic factors.
