The present study aimed to investigate differences in family burden and caregiver distress in a population of caregivers for schizophrenia, by separating the caregiver gender. Following the psychiatric revolution and the implementation of deinstitutionalization policies, care for people with mental health conditions shifted from psychiatric hospitals to their families. Thus, family caregivers were forced to take full responsibility for the care of patients, which created challenges for them. Only a few studies have examined the caregiving challenges of family caregivers in patients with schizophrenia. The aim of this study was to explore the experience of caregivers of schizophrenia and to understand the ways in which genetic transmission and environmental factors are studied. This qualitative study was conducted based on 08 family caregivers of schizophrenia patients visiting a psychiatric hospital in Agra. The results of this study show that family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia face many problems related to multiple responsibilities in the care process and challenges in the provision of mental health care services. This finding may improve the knowledge and awareness of psychiatric and mental health nurses about the challenges of caregiving in family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia and related factors.
