Abstract

This study focuses on the development and characterization of Meclizine HCl floating gastroretentive tablets designed to prolong drug release and enhance bioavailability. Various formulations were prepared using Meclizine HCl as the active pharmaceutical ingredient along with excipients such as sodium alginate, gum tragacanth, and microcrystalline cellulose. Pre-compression and post-compression parameters were evaluated to ensure optimal tablet properties. In-vitro drug release studies demonstrated sustained release profiles over 12 hours, with formulation F7 exhibiting superior characteristics. Regression analysis supported the mechanisms of drug release, indicating diffusion and erosion as predominant pathways. The results suggest that these gastroretentive tablets hold promise for controlled drug delivery, potentially improving therapeutic outcomes and patient compliance.
