Abstract

Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sudden loss of muscle tone (cataplexy), sleep paralysis, and hallucinations during sleep. Modafinil, a wakefulness promoting agent, is commonly used for the treatment of narcolepsy due to its ability to improve wakefulness and reduce excessive daytime sleepiness. However, convention al oral dosage forms of Modafinil may pose challenges in administration, especially for patients with difficulty swallowing. Mouth dissolving films (MDFs) offer a patient friendly alternative for drug delivery, providing rapid disintegration and dissolutio n in the oral cavity without the need for water. This review aims to explore the formulation and evaluation of Modafinil loaded MDFs for the treatment of narcolepsy, focusing on recent advancements in formulation techniques, excipient selection, and evaluation parameters.
