Abstract

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a significant clinical challenge within intensive care settings worldwide, impacting nephrological practices and overall patient outcomes. The heterogeneity in AKI definitions has historically complicated its study and management. Objectives: This review aims to elucidate the recent developments in the standardized diagnostic criteria for AKI and to explore the evolving role of intensive care physicians in the management of extracorporeal therapies.
