GGT and Microalbuminuria a Powerful Indicator of MI in Prediabetic & Diabetic with Obesity

Abstract

the aim of this review is to study the role of increased gamma glutymyl transferase and microalbuminuria, in prediction of myocardial infarction in prediabetics and diabetics. Materials and methods: Pubmed, Scopus, Embase, and the Cochrane library were electronically searched. Studies were included if Articles were published in English, and the studies were observational and experimental studies (Case control, Cohort, RCT) for predicting the association between increased Gamma glutymyl transferase and microalbuminuria in prediabetics and diabetics. The information on specific points including study authors, title, date of publication, study design and inclusion and exclusion criteria, demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients were extracted. Results: A metanalysis of 10 studies have shown that, GGT was associated with incident vascular events independently of alcohol intake.The above studies reported either a trend or a significant association between microalbuminuria and total mortality or cardiovascular morbidity or mortality. Observational studies have linked increased risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes with circulating serum levels of gamma-glutamy ltransferase (GGT). Conclusion: The studies reviewed had shown a clear indication of prediction of myocardial infarction by serum gamma glutamyltransferase and Microalbuminuria in patients with prediabetes and diabetes mellitus.The presence of prediabetes not only raises the risk of microalbuminuria but also increases the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is recommended that people at risk of diabetes undergo regular testing for albuminuria.
