Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using root and bark extract of Ziziphus oenoplia and their antimicrobial and anticancer activity against HeLa cells.

Abstract

Silver nanoparticle (AgNP) preparation by plant extracts is considered a sustainable, eco-friendly substitute for traditional chemical methods. In this study, we derive AgNPs by green synthesis using root or stem bark Ziziphus oenoplia, a medicinal plant for its properties of treatment and cure. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) which confirmed their size, shape and elemental composition. The AgNPs showed potent antimicrobial activity against a range of bacterial species, indicating their potential as efficacious agents for controlling bacteria-infected diseases. Moreover, the anticancer effect in HeLa cells (a human cervical cancer cell line) of AgNPs was investigated. Results showed significant cytotoxicity, suggesting that these nanoparticles might well be used to treat cancer. This paper emphasizes that green synthesis methods deserve further development because they not only reduce environmental impact but also enhance the bioactivity of the particles being produced. In the future, research should focus on understanding how these AgNPs work -both indoors and out- what causes their antimicrobial and anticancer effects. This study contributes to developing a knowledge base in relation to green nanotechnology and Medicine applications of nano.
