This study, conducted between June and September 2024, aimed to assess the prevalence of hypertension among pregnant women followed at the Amissa Bongo University Hospital in Franceville, Gabon. A questionnaire administered through interviews with the patients was used to collect data on sociodemographic characteristics, clinical and obstetrical history, medical history, family history, and lifestyle. Blood pressure was measured using a reference Scian LD 588 sphygmomanometer, which was regularly calibrated according to standards. The variables were analyzed using R version 3.6.1. In a 95% confidence interval, any p-value less than or equal to 0.05 was considered significant. Among the 222 women included, 6.76% (95% CI: [0.04-0.11]) had hypertension. Statistical analyses using bivariate analysis followed by binary multivariate logistic regression revealed that women with 5 or more pregnancies (adjusted OR = 3.5; 95% CI: [1.1; 11.2], p = 0.034*) and those with a medical history (adjusted OR = 17.6; 95% CI: [1.3; 12.5], p = 0.032*) were significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertension in this study. These findings underscore the need for enhanced blood pressure monitoring in pregnant women, particularly those with a medical history. Early and appropriate management of gestational hypertension can improve maternal and fetal outcomes and reduce associated risks
