An analysis was conducted on the degradation of bioplastic and its impact on the microbial biomass and diversity in the soil environment. The components of the bioplastic were directly correlated with the rate of bioplastic decomposition in soil. Examining how soil bacterial biomass affects bioplastic degradability is the aim of the research project. Increases in bacterial biomass in the soil were correlated with faster rates of bioplastic breakdown. Both soil enrichment and the isolation of microorganisms that break down bioplastic were carried out. Isolated colonies were identified, tracked, and stored for eventual deterioration. Weight parameters and color change were used to analyze the degradation.
