Abstract

The concept of Cognitive Reserve (CR) refers to the brain's ability to maintain function despite damage or pathology, influenced by individual differences in neural and cognitive resources. This study explores the relationship between Cognitive Reserve and Cognitive Flexibility (CF), focusing on the mediating role of education. Using a sample of 120 individuals from Gujarat, India, divided based on their educational attainment (below and above primary education), the study employed various cognitive measures, including the Cognitive Reserve Index Questionnaire (CRIQ) and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), to assess CR and CF, respectively. Statistical analyses revealed significant positive correlations between CR and CF, CR and education, and education and CF. The mediation analysis confirmed that education significantly mediates the relationship between CR and CF, highlighting its critical role in enhancing cognitive reserve and flexibility.
