Impact of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) on IISR Pragathi Turmeric variety (Curcuma Longa L. ) Cultivation in Armoor Revenue Division ,Nizamabad District, Telangana, India

Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma longa), a vital spice crop extensively cultivated in India, has garnered significant global attention due to its high curcumin content, medicinal properties, and widespread use in culinary and cosmetic industries. India is the leading producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric, with significant contributions from states like Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. This study focused on the impact of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) on the cultivation of the turmeric variety IISR PRAGATI in the Armoor Division of Nizamabad District, Telangana, India.INM is an approach that optimizes the use of organic, inorganic, and biological components to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity. Field investigations and data were collected through farmer interviews, questionnaires, and site visits. Seven different treatment combinations were analyzed to evaluate their effects on rhizome yield. The results showed that the combined application of 50% NPK (Recommended Dose Fertilizer), Farm Yard Manure (FYM, 25 t/ha), Vermicompost (5 t/ha), and Neem Cake (500 kg/ha) (T4) produced the highest yield. This combination provided a balanced nutrient supply, improving soil fertility and supporting superior plant growth.Furthermore, the study reinforced findings from other research, demonstrating that a balanced integration of organic and inorganic fertilizers leads to higher crop productivity, better soil health, and enhanced nutrient absorption. Thus, T4 emerged as the most effective treatment, significantly increasing both fresh and dry rhizome weights compared to other treatments. This highlights the potential of INM practices in boosting turmeric yields, improving economic returns, and supporting sustainable agriculture.
