Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized primarily by motor impairments, including tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Additionally, cognitive deficits and neuropsychiatric symptoms often accompany the motor symptoms, contributing to the overall burden of the disease. The deposition of alpha-synuclein aggregates, known as Lewy bodies, in dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra is a pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease.
