Objectives To evaluate the outcome of sigmoid colostomy in patients having anorectal malformation Materials and methods This retrospective study was conducted in PAQSJIMS Gambat from 1st April 2022 to 30th March, 2024. Patients aged between 1day to 5 years, with confirmed diagnosis of anorectal malformation were included in my study. Sigmoid colostomy was performed in left iliac fossa in double barrel fashion. Outcome was measured in term of hospital stay, complications. Data was entered & analyzed by using SPSS version 20, mean & standard deviation was calculated for independent variables and chi square test was applied keeping P-value < 0.05 as significance. Results Totally 91 patient were studied retrospectively full filling the inclusion criteria. 61.19% were male and 38.81% were female. In 72 patients out of 91 no complication was noted which constitute 79.7% of the included population whilst the remaining 20.3% of the patients gets complicated. The most common complication noted in majority of our patients was surgical site infection which is reported in13.04% of the patients followed by stoma prolapse reported in 4.3% of the patients, stoma retraction in 1.44% of the patients and burst abdomen in 1.445 of the patients respectively.
