POST VACCINATION IGG SERO-SURVEILLANCE OF COVID-19 IN HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL AT A TERTIARY CARE MEDICAL INSTITUTE (CHITTOR DISTRICT) FROM SOUTH INDIA.

Abstract

Back ground: First a novel COVID-19 viral disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 detected in Wuhan, China in 2019.The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11th, 2020. A vulnerable cohort for infection due to frequent and close contact to COVID-19 patients is healthcare workers. On 1 January 2021, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approved emergency use of the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine (local trade name "Covishield") On 2 January, the DCGI also approved BBV152 (trade name "Covaxin"), a domestic vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology. Aim and objectives: The study is aimed at post vaccination IgG sero-surveillance of covid-19 in health care personnel in response to covid-19 vaccine. Material and methods: The study includes totally 500 health care personnel who were vaccinated with 2 doses of covid19 vaccine (covishield, covaxin) and their serum IgG antibodies in response to the vaccination were measured by using chemiluminiscence immunoassay- Access-2 (Beckman coulter) according to the instructions in the kit provided by the manufacturer. Results: Of total 500 health care personnel estimated for serum IgG antibodies after covid-19 vaccination, 91.4% of the individuals were reactive and have developed antibodies in response to the vaccination and 8.6% of the individuals were non reactive. Conclusion: In the present study the serological immune response for the covi-19 vaccine is 91.4% i.e.,91.4% of the individuals have developed antibodies in response to the vaccination (covishield, covaxin).
